Alexander Smirnov worked as a linesman in the JHL, a scientific methodologist, an analyst for the Russian junior team of different ages, a coach–analyst at the hockey academy of Moscow Spartak.
In the 2021–2024 seasons he was a coach–analyst for HC Metallurg (Novokuznetsk).
