Igor Grishin was born in Moscow. He is a graduate of the CSKA Hockey School.
As a professional player, Igor Grishin spent one season in 1988–1989 with Khimik from Engels in the second league of the USSR championship. Grishin worked as a coach at the juniour level at the CSKA school for a long time.
In the 2015-2016 season, he made his debute in the JHL, joining the U–18 team Coaching Staff. After working at Ufa's Tolpar, in 2021 Igor Grishin debuted in the VHL, heading HC Ryazan. Just a season later, he led Moscow's Spartak in the KHL for six months.
Having moved to Khimik, Grishin immediately achieved the greatest success in his career – winning the Petrov Cup. Last season, he took sixth place in the regular championship with Voskresensk team, then reached the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
