Andrei Sergeyev brought the Gagarin Cup to Nizhnekamsk

11.07.2025

The main trophy of the Kontinental Hockey League, the Gagarin Cup, has arrived in Nizhnekamsk again. Neftekhimik alumnus, now Lokomotiv defenseman Andrei Sergeyev, the 2024/2025 KHL champion, brought the cup to his hometown.

Andrei has a great background: silver of the World Junior Championship (2009), winner of the World Ice Hockey Championship as part of the Russian Junior National Team (2011), gold at the Universiade (2011), winner of the Kharlamov Cup as part of the Red Army (2011), winner of the World Cup among junior club teams (2011).

In 2007, Andrei managed to play for Neftekhimik-2, and with the emergence of the JHL, he began to play for Reaktor. His debut in the KHL took place in his native Nizhnekamsk in the 2009/2010 season, then he moved to the CSKA system, but in 2015, Sergeev returned to Neftekhimik and played for our team for five seasons. In total, he played 839 games in the KHL, including 253 games for Neftekhimik. He scored 293 points at the highest level, 75 of which were as part of the Nizhnekamsk team.

“It’s nice to be back home, my family and parents are here. I’m glad to bring the Cup here, I’m looking forward to meeting the kids from the Neftekhimik Youth Sports School. Even if I can influence one fate, someone will be inspired, watch, leave the street and go into sports, that will be great,” said Andrei Sergeyev.

The first thing Andrei did was rush straight to the ice training of the Reaktor team. He played in the distant 2009/2010 season as part of our youth team in the newly created youth hockey league. Excellent motivation for our reactor players!

Representatives of the youngest generation of Nizhnekamsk hockey players were able to take a memorable photo with Andrei Sergeyev and the Gagarin Cup – these are the students of the Neftekhimik Hockey School. Who knows, maybe there are future champions among them?

"Our guys were very happy to have this opportunity to meet the KHL champion. They will also strive for new heights. Moreover, now they are playing on the same ice where Andrei Sergeyev started out," said Andrei Zharenkov, coach of the Neftekhimik Hockey School.

"We are grateful to Andrei for bringing the Gagarin Cup to Nizhnekamsk, to our club, to his native sports school, where he took his first steps on the ice. His success is the result of the work of many people. First of all, coach Boris Vladimirovich Shamarin, who trained the future champion until he was 12. As Andrei's dad said, it was he who taught him to love and understand hockey, to work hard and achieve goals," said Igor Larionov, Neftekhimik Director
General.

A real hockey holiday for all Nizhnekamsk fans took place in the Semya Park. Everyone could touch the coveted cup, take a photo as a souvenir and get an autograph from the KHL champion Andrei Sergeyev, whose achievements are the pride of all of Nizhnekamsk and the Neftekhimik hockey club.
