Neftekhimik defensman Artyom Serikov talks with the media after a following 2–1 win over Ak Bars.
– Artyom, first of all, congratulations on the win and scored goal!
– It was a good game: there were two scoreless periods, and in the third, penalties started coming in on both sides. We capitalized two times – scored two quick goals. We conceded one at the end, but we were able to win!
– What can you say about your goal? You usually do not shoot much from the blue line.
– Actually, I have this problem: I do not shoot much, and I think everyone can see that. At one point, the puck just flew off the ice. I did not feel that setting up the play is a good idea, so I just shot the puck infront of the screen and scored.
– In the first period, there were a lot of attacks, but not enough shots...
– Statistically, there were not many shots, but it seemed to me that we put pressure on the opponent's defense. The coaching staff also noted this.
– We could not beat Ak Bars in Kazan for seven games. Did you know that?
– Yes, I just asked the guys about it today. I think we won in the playoffs two years ago, and now we are trying to do it again.
– What are your thoughts about third period?
– The end of the game was expectedly tense. The opponent brought on a sixth player instead of a goaltender. My helmet even flew off in the struggle, and I had to run to the bench. I left Ilya Pastukhov all alone in the slot. I thought that the oppoisng team would score. Luckily, they did not.
