Neftekhimik Head Coach Igor Grishin speaks with the media before the road trip.
– Recent defeats have been hard to take. How is the team’s mood right now?– Judging by today’s practice, the mood is fairly good. The guys worked with enthusiasm. They had yesterday off – extra rest days matter.
– What was the main emphasis in preparing for this road trip? I assume the training process is adapted to the particular traits of your upcoming opponents?
– We certainly factor that in, yes. We have a clear picture of how our next opponent is likely to play. Today, we worked on drills aimed specifically at the upcoming game. That said, our top priority is always the team’s physical condition. We choose exercises that keep the players moving and feeling fresh – freshness remains one of the most essential qualities. When the team is physically ready, it tends to have more success on the ice.
– Is everyone fit? Are you travelling with a complete roster?
– Unfortunately, Damir Zhafyarov is out; he was injured in the last game. At the same time, there are some good news, Amir Gizyatov, one of our young players, will travel with us. Otherwise, the rest of the roster is available.
– Will he get a chance to play?
– He will play. He actually received an opportunity in the last game – after Damir was injured – and he did quite well. He even generated scoring chances he might have finished. It was a big lift for us.
