Matvei Nadvorny «I think every game will be like that»

26.03.2026

Neftekhimik forward Matvei Nadvorny speaks with the media after a following 4–3 (2nd OT) win over Avangard.

– What were your impressions of this long game?
Yes, basically, it was the same game as the last one. We understand what our opponent is doing, I think, and our opponent knows what we are doing. So, it was an even, hard–battled game, with some provocations, a true playoff game. I think the fans enjoyed it.

Who, in your opinion, provoked us more? It really felt like your team set the tone for the game.
Yes, it's been like that since the first game. I think every game will be like that; it's the playoffs.

How would you comment on the collision with Igumnov, which kept him from playing today?
I wish him good health. Whenever there's a hit, there's no intent to injure anybody. I hope he recovers and can play in the next game, because all the best players should be playing now, at this time.

We essentially played almost a game and a half today. How are you feeling physically?
Well, of course it's tough; you can't fool anyone, so now all we can do is recover before the next game and play the same hockey we always play.

After two games in Omsk, it's clear that these are two hard games; there are no favorites or underdogs. Do you think Neftekhimik can advance?
Well, I don't know; you'd have to ask the experts who's the favorite and who's not. We don't care who's playing against us; we're one unit, and when we give it our all and play for each other, there are no rivals for us.

You'll have the support of the fans at home. Will that make it easier, or does it add some pressure?
We'll see. Home fans always help; we have great fans who always support us well.

Do you feel like you're becoming a key player, the most difficult for your opponents, and all attention is focused on you? Fans and opposing players are closely watching your actions and behavior.
Well, again, questions for the experts and the fans. I simply help my team win by any means necessary, so whether you like it or not, that's my game, my style.

What did you and Ponomaryov talk about in overtime? Was it trash talk or a friendly talk?
We just chatted a little. Ask him if you're interested.
