Metallurg Mg 8–1 Neftekhimik 11/5/2026

05.11.2026

Neftekhimik lost to Metallurg Mg 1–8.

Metallurg Mg had the upper hand for much of the period. The hosts held the puck for longer spells and used long passes to move quickly into our zone, where they built sustained pressure on Filipp Dolganov’s net. Metallurg Mg outshot its opponents by more than three to one over the period. Only calm, smart play from our goaltender kept Neftekhimik’s net untouched.

Both teams had powerplay chances as well, but neither the hosts nor Neftekhimik could convert. Just before the intermission, a burst of pressure from our side almost produced a goal against Alexander Smolin. Nikita Khoruzhev and Andrei Belozyorov broke away on a two-on-one, but our captain could not convert, and the chance slipped away.

The opening goal came from a mistake by our team at the opposing blue line. Yegor Korobkin intercepted the puck and raced toward Dolganov’s net; two of our players tried their best to stop him, but he succeeded. The deadlock was broken: 1–0 for the hosts.

Early in the second period, the hosts scored again. Luke Johnson pounced on a turnover by one of our players right in front of our net. Soon after, the Metallurg Mg tested our goal frame and struck the crossbar.

A team rarely capitalizes on every single mistake its opponent makes, yet that is exactly what happened. Across the second period, Metallurg Mg put five pucks into our net. Even replacing Filipp with Yaroslav did not change the tide – Dolganov was not at fault for the goals conceded; the coaching staff simply made the change to try to shake up the team. It brought to mind a game against Metallurg from 15 years ago, when Neftekhimik earned an 8–1 win. Back then, roughly one in every three shots found the back of the net.

Today followed a similar pattern. In the third period, Neftekhimik scored a shorthanded goal. German Tochilkin intercepted the puck near the boards, broke away toward Metallurg Mg and calmly beat Smolin.
