Neftekhimik lost to Avangard 0–1.
Avangard was hungry for redemption, and that determination was evident in every play. Rashevsky and Livo found themselves in prime scoring positions with excellent chances to open the scoring but failed to convert.Neftekhimik responded in kind, launching an exemplary attack initiated by Rafael Bikmullin. Receiving the pass, Artur Tyanulin fired from what seemed like an ideal spot, but the puck went wide. The ensuing counterattack resulted in a goal against us; Yaroslav Ozolin – who played at a high level throughout the game – reacted to the initial shot, but Mikhail Gulyaev scored on the rebound. This occurred late in the 12th minute. Neftekhimik’s attempt to challenge the goal (claiming goaltender interference) proved unsuccessful, and the referees upheld the original call.
In the second period, Neftekhimik stepped up their intensity and put the opposing defense under significantly more pressure. Our guys created more scoring chances and dangerous moments, though they remained goalless. Avangard goaltender played smartly, and their defensemen were extremely disciplined, stepping in to back up their goalie during critical moments.
A prime example of this cohesive teamwork was a play involving Matvei Nadvorny and Sergei Artemyev. The pair broke away toward the Avangard net; after Artemyev took a shot, Avangard player literally stepped into the puck's path to neutralize the threat.
The third period was dominated by Neftekhimik as the Nizhnekamsk squad unleashed a barrage of attacks on Nikita Serebryakov’s goal, registering 22 shots on target. At times, Avangard simply cleared the puck away, focusing entirely on protecting their own net.
The game culminated in a frantic push during the final minutes. Neftekhimik pulled Yaroslav Ozolin for an extra attacker and made a desperate attempt to tie the game, but they were unable to beat Serebryakov.
Ultimately, it was a tough, narrow defeat for Neftekhimik. Yet, there is no shame in this loss: the team showed true grit, refusing to give up after conceding a goal and fighting for a result right down to the final second.
A special thanks goes to the fans. The arena was packed to near capacity today, and the support was powerful and truly electric. It is precisely this kind of atmosphere that energizes the players and makes hockey so special.
