Avtomobilist changed their roster over the summer. Roughly 15 players walked out, about 10 walked in. Among the big names gone: Stéphane Da Costa  a longtime leader and the team’s top scorer – plus Brooks Macek, Maxim Osipov, Yuri Pautov, Alexei Byvaltsev, and others.

The club went big-game hunting, loading up on experienced, high-profile talent:

Alexander Kadeikin
a center who wore the “C” for Traktor last season. He’s got SKA, Lokomotiv, and Salavat Yulaev on his résumé. Last season, he set a personal KHL scoring best: 67 points in 84 games.

Anton Slepyshev
arrives from Dynamo Moscow. A three-time Gagarin Cup champ with CSKA. In 2025/26, he put up 27 points (9 goals, 18 assists) in 66 games for Dynamo.

Adam Ruzicka
a Slovak forward from Spartak. He racked up 97 points (49 goals, 48 assists) over two seasons there. He also has NHL stops with the Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes.

The blue line got reinforcements too: Ilya Karpukhin and American Jordan Gross, who brings NHL experience with the Arizona Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche, and Nashville Predators. Canadian Cale Clague is another newcomer after playing in the AHL before jumping to the KHL.

But the headliner? Forward Alexander Barabanov, formerly of Ak Bars. Pair him with Daniel Sprong, and Avtomobilist has a legit attacking line
one of the KHL’s best.

This matchup has been action-packed and unpredictable. The teams have traded wins in recent seasons:

So what should we expect? Avtomobilist looks like a team with serious potential. But our squad plays aggressive hockey and can make life miserable for anyone. The keys: can the visitors’ power play click, and can Neftekhimik shut down Avtomobilist’s new-look line combos? It’s going to be intense. Get to the rink and back the home team!
