Oleg Leontyev: «We did not give up and played to the very end»

Neftekhimik head coach Oleg Leontyev speaks with the media after a following 4–3 win over Admiral.

– Despite the fact that after the second period we were trailing 0–3, we did not give up and played to the very end. One scored goal is a game-changer. The guys did their best and we got a win with a great comeback. Congratulations to the fans on this victory! Getting ready for the next game!

– If we look at the stats, before the start of the third period, there was a terrifying difference in faceoffs winning – 9 to 31 in Admiral favor. In the third, Neftekhimik won 16 faceoffs while Amiral only 6.

– Before this game, we did not have any problems with faceoffs. I do not know why it happened. We work on it always. We outplayed an opposing team in terms of shots and blocked shots. This is a key to success.

– Before the third period, did you try to focus the team on something on making more shots?

– Yes, the coaching staff made certain adjustments, so our players paid attention to some things.

– For two periods we played good hockey. We should win this kind of games. You lose your focus on the ice – you lose the game. It is hard for the team to play the way we did before after conceding goals. Even the timeout did not help. We need to learn from games like this one.
