Press Conference «Neftekhimik – Barys» 10/27/2025
27.10.2025

Neftekhimik Head Coach Igor Grishin speaks with the media after a following 3–2 win over Barys.
We started the game well and created a lot of goal–scoring chances and skated well. That was basically the case for both periods. But a mistake early in the third period gave the opponent a little more room to play. That is when the battle for the win began. We lost the initiative, and the opponent was attacking a lot.
Nevertheless, the guys did well. They played selflessly, making sure to block shots. Filipp, as usual, played great. Together, we brought the game to a win.
– In the first two periods, Barys started to play physicaly. Why were not there any physical play at the start of the game?
– The game does not consist only of physical play. It is all about how you move, pass the puck, and create chances that matter. Apparently, the opponent had no choice but to start play physical hockey. The only thing was that we were not quite as good at taking advantage of goal–scoring chances. Otherwise, it would have been easier for us. In my opinion, a body check is needed to get possesion of the puck.
– Before the game, you said that the key to success lies in skating, movement, and puck control. Did that happen?
– As I said earlier, in the first two periods the guys showed what I wanted to see. Unfortunately, that was not the case in the third period. You cannot give your opponent a lot of room to play, because a two–goal lead does not mean anything. It is a slippery lead, the most unpleasant one. If the lead is minimal, the team plays more strictly, realizing that the next goal they concede could tie the game. A two–goal lead is too deceptive. But it is good that the guys played well defensively after the goal they concede.

Barys Head Coach Mikhail Kravets:
– There is not much to say about the game, as this was our worst game. We made a lot of mistakes, and some guys were not doing what they should have. Despite the way we played, the result could have been completely different. The third period was a good one. Unfortunately, we could not tie the game up at the end.
