Last season, Sputnik could not climb out of fifth in the Eastern Conference’s Silver Division, finishing with 52 points in 60 games (43.33%). They missed the play–in zone by 23 points. Sputnik scored more that any other team – 193 goals, and conceded more that any other team – 251. They closed the campaign with a wild one against Reaktor, dropping an 8–10 game.

Coaching Staff

The bench got a full facelift in the spring. Eduard Dmitriyev is back as head coach. He’d already run the Sputnik bench in 2014–15 and again from 2017 to 2022, twice taking the team to the playoffs. In 2022–23 he coached Neftyanik, and last season he worked with the Ak Bars-Neftyanik 2009 team at the local youth sports academy.

As a player, Dmitriev had a stop with Neftekhimik, but he made his name with Neftyanik. Over 13 years there, he racked up more than 500 points, became the club’s all-time leading scorer, and won a championship, a silver, and two bronzes in the Russian Higher League. He was also on the coaching staff for the club’s title-winning 2015–16 season.

Dmitriev’s staff features young coaches Pavel Kornilov and Vladislav Arbuzov, plus goaltending coach Airat Valiev. New strength and conditioning coach Rachiya Karakhanyan has recently joined the group.

Roster Changes

A big group of 2009–2010-born players has been added to the кщыеук.

The goalie room has been almost completely rebuilt. Starter Danil Tychkin is back after posting a 91.4% save percentage and a 3.09 goals-against average in 36 games. Mikhail Yemelyanenko, who saw four games last season, also returns. Kirill Subbotin (HC Kaluga) and Daniil Khokhryakov (Irbis) are the new arrivals.

Six defensemen return. Yegor Levagin is the most experienced of the group and finished the preseason with the main team. Seven new defensemen have joined the blue line.

Up front, seven forwards are back. Vilen Taziyev leads the returners after finishing fourth on the team with 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 54 games. Ten newcomers have been added to the attack, almost all from the Ak Bars system.

Head–to–Head History

The rivalry with Almetyevsk has plenty of history. The teams have met 38 times officially: Reaktor has 20 regulation wins and one shootout win, against 13 regulation losses and four overtime losses.

In the preseason, Reaktor swept a friendly series with Sputnik, taking both games 4–1. The teams also met at the TNA Cup in Kazan, where Almetyevsk finished last. Reaktor dropped its final game of the tournament 3–2.
