Neftekhimik got a win over Sibir 3–1.
What happened at the very start of this game will surely go down in the record books as a rarity: just four seconds in, Artur Tyanulin was handed a two–minute penalty. Neftekhimik did not give the opposition any real chances. In fact, with only seconds left before Tyanulin’s penalty expired, Neftekhimik managed to score a shorthanded goal. After weathering a sustained attack, our players had the puck. A long pass was sent toward Sibir’s end, and Sevastyan Sokolov raced after it. As goaltender Anton Krasotkin and Egor Alanov tried to deal with the puck, our young forward swooped in, grabbed it, and instantly fed it to the onrushing Rafael Bikmullin. A precise shot followed, putting Neftekhimik ahead 1–0.The score stayed that way until the first intermission, even with decent chances at both ends. A full house at Sibir Arena saw no more goals in the period, a credit to the goaltenders: Anton Krasotkin and Yaroslav Ozolin were both excellent.
Neftekhimik also started the second period on the front foot. Maxim Sushko – who played for Neftekhimik just last season – was sent to the penalty box. As the power play neared its end, our team struck for a second goal. Nikita Khoruzhev, recently returned to the lineup, fired a shot that led to a scramble in front of the net, where Alexander Petunin and Sergei Artemyev did excellent work, setting up German Tochilkin to finish the play. Sushko, however, redeemed himself quickly. On a counterattack by the hosts, the forward scored from a sharp angle to make it 2–1. That goal gave Sibir a noticeable boost, but the hosts could not add another during that stretch of the game.
In the third period, Sibir made a desperate push to at least force a tie. Sound defensive play and incisive counterattacks helped our team neutralize every effort from the opposition. Artur Tyanulin capped this intense, emotional game with an empty–net goal. It was a well-deserved win.
