– Despite the score, it was an evenly matched game – or at least the first two periods were. The opponent came out ready for a battle; they showed good movement. Our guys did too, though not everyone; our third and fourth lines were effectively out of the game. Overall, we simply failed to convert our chances. You have to score when you get those opportunities.In the second period, we did not capitalize on our five-on-three and five-on-four advantages. We had good scoring chances – we just needed to score a goal. Then the momentum shifted: in the third period, we took a penalty, then another, then a third. Discipline let us down. We conceded goals. You could say the game fell apart.
– So, was the turning point when you failed to convert the five-on-three?
– Yes. When you do not score during a five-on-three, the momentum usually shifts against you. You have to score.
