Neftekhimik Head Coach Igor Grishin speaks with the media after a following 2–0 win over Ak Bars.
– It was a tough game for us. We played against strong, confident, big, and attacking a lot team. Our guys were determined to fight and played to win. We helped each other out, and our goaltender played great. We are going game by game, trying to win every game. Even when we lost, the team played well, we just couldn't capitalize on our goal–scoring chances. Step by step, the team is maturing and gaining confidence.
It is tough playing against Ak Bars. They know what they are doing. They press a lot ana have good forecheck, and it is hard to break through that pressure. We were more creative in the first period, but the second was tough. The bench was far, and a good team was pressing. Of course, when we are trailling 3-0 and then win 4-3, that's great; to win 7-5, that's great. Fans love it when a game is spectacular, but victories like today's are also important when you have to endure and push yourself.
Of course, you want a higher score, and maybe some are preparing for the playoffs and making adjustments, but when the players really want it, dig in their heels, and selflessly shut everything down, there's nothing you can do, and that dedication really shines in the playoffs. As for what they can create up front, that depends on how it plays out–sometimes better, sometimes worse.
We were not playing defensively; we also wanted to play more offensively, but our opponents were strong and forced us to defend.
