Press Conference «Neftekhimik – Torpedo» 12/28/2025

28.12.2025

Neftekhimik Head Coach Igor Grishin speaks with the media after a following 5–0 win over Torpedo.

– It was a great game! The mood was New Year's, and there were a lot of fans. We managed to create a pleasant atmosphere; even the warm-up was in keeping with the New Year's spirit. The guys came out with a winning attitude; they wanted to continue their streak with points. I think we played a decent first period, and in the second period, we gave up some momentum to our opponents. It's good that we managed to win the second period. In the final period, we initially played according to plan, and then completely seized the advantage. Fortunately, we got a win.

– In the first period, the game was played practically without a neutral zone. Why?
– Both teams prefer to play offensively, so mistakes are inevitable. It's just that one team is able to create more scoring chances, while the other isn't. This kind of game is what the spectators enjoy. Overall, the entire game was interesting today.

– This is already the fourth game in a day. Were you worried about running out of energy?
– We managed to structure the cycle so the guys could rest and recover. It seemed like the opponent looked fresher in the second period. So, there were concerns that Nizhny Novgorod would improve and outplay us in the third period. During the break, we talked with the guys and reminded them of the previous game against Torpedo. So, we played tight at the start of the period, and then we started creating chances, playing in the opponent's zone, and scored goals.

– At the beginning of the season, Grigori Seleznyov wasn't always in the lineup. But now he's scoring points and contributing to the team. Would you say he's fully integrated into your philosophy?
– At the beginning of the season, Grigori had an injury that prevented him from playing at full strength. Now he's fully recovered and is showing what we want from him. I think a hockey player gets inspired when he gains the trust of the coaching staff.

What would you like to wish the fans and everyone on New Year's Eve?
I wish you exciting, great games. Come to the stands, enjoy the action, and support the team. Just come have a good time and experience positive emotions. Outside of hockey, I wish you health, family well-being, peace, and all the very best! Happy New Year, everyone!
