Timur Khiarullin: «We tried to do our job»

18.03.2026

Neftekhimik forward Timur Khairullin speaks with the media after a following 0–3 loss against Salavat Yulaev.

– We had good momentum today, created a lot of scoring chances, and seemed to do a good job defensively, but our scoring opportunities let us down: they scored three, and unfortunately, we didn't score a single goal.

We scored six goals in Nizhny Novgorod and none here. So, did we max out our scoring in the last game?
I don't think we've maxed out yet; there are plenty of goals to come, but today, let's say, wasn't our day in terms of goals.

Continuing on that topic. Maybe the opposing goalie is to blame for the lack of goals?
I don't think that's our decision to make. We tried to do our job, and then let others judge who played well and who didn't.

Would it be fair to say we lacked composure in the final moments?
– It's also hard to say. We seemed to have done well in our last game with finishing, but today something didn't work out. Maybe we really lacked composure, or maybe it was luck, or maybe skill.

A negative result is still a result. I guess the experience from today's game will come in handy in the playoffs...
All games, regardless of the outcome, are useful. For me, it's always better to win and learn from victories than from defeats.

The final game of the regular season is coming up. How can we get ourselves ready for a game that doesn't decide our standings in the standings?
We'll try to follow the coaching staff's instructions and play to win, and prepare for the next stage of our season. I think we need to improve our finishing and defensive play to avoid conceding, try to keep a clean sheet, and score more.
