Neftekhimik forward Viktor Andreichenko speaks with the media after a following 3–2 win over Sibir.
– It was a tough game that required a lot of grit. Congratulations on your first goal – it must have come as a surprise. Especially since it was your first in the KHL.– Overall, yes – it was a hard–fought victory, and the guys really gave it their all. The ending was particularly tense. As for the goal, I did not even realize I had scored at first; when I lined up for the next face-off and the announcement was made, I thought, "Well, they must have made a mistake."
– So, did you miss out on keeping the puck?
– No, not at all – I was congratulated in the locker room.
– Looking at the game as a whole, it was a very tough game. Sibir defended really well and gave us very little space. How did you have to play? What kind of decisions did you need to make?
– Yes, once they scored their goals, they likely shifted to a defensive style. It was a real grind of a game, so we had to try to get the puck into their zone as simply as possible and put more pressure on the net to keep them pinned in. We capitalized on our chances and scored.
– Your first goal, your first KHL season. Do you have a feel for the league yet? Do you know how to play here? How is the adjustment process going overall?
– The adjustment is happening very gradually. I am trying to keep my game simple and focus more on defense – trying to contribute to the team through my actions. Maybe not necessarily by putting up points, but through the little unseen things that ultimately give us the advantage.
