Vladislav Leontyev: «We had a lot of chances»

Neftekhimik defenseman Vladislav Leontyev speaks with the media after a following 1–4 loss agaisnt Severstal.

– We had a bad start, it is not the first game we have started like that, although we discuss the coaching staff's task before the game and agreed on what and how to do on the ice. But in reality, it does not always work out the way we should. In some places, we did not play quite right. When you concede two goals in a row, it is harder to come back.

– What was the key aspect of the game that we lost to our opponent?
– In principle, nothing in particular. Yes, in the first period, the hosts were fresher, and in some ways they outpaced us in speed. The second twenty minutes turned out completely differently – the initiative was on our side. In the third period, we had the puck possesion in their zone the whole time. But, I repeat, a lot depends on the start of the game. We lost to our opponents in scoring opportunities.

– In the third period, it was clear that we had the advantage and that the team was going to score a goal. However, the penalty shot that the opponent scored knocked us down.
– Yes, we had a lot of chances. But we need to score. We have skilled guys who know how to do it. But, so far, it has not always worked out, the puck does not go inl. It is hard to say why. I agree, the penalty shot decided a lot in this game. It is hard to score at least three goals in such a short time.
